McMaster Journal of Communications 2013: Cover Illustration > "The McMaster Journal of Communications is an internationally viewed academic journal featuring graduate level written works surrounding a particular issue in communications theory. For the tenth anniversary edition, I wanted to change the format and shake off a bit of the dust that can surround academia. The theme of the year was 'Power and persuasion'. One critical step in differentiating our journal from the sea of others was the cover and interior artwork, executed amazingly by Chris Brown. Chris came to the project excited, driven and full of creative ideas that ended up shaping the mood of the journal. I approached Chris as my first choice for an artist because his style was dynamic, natural and unconventional (i.e. everything I wanted to represent with the journal). Chris' artwork interspersed the somewhat dense communications/political science/ philosophy and gender studies scholarship and brought a bit of levity and symbolism to the somewhat staunch works. Hopefully this opens up critical thought to audiences intimidated by academic theory and introduces more people to Chris' fantastic ability. The McMaster Journal of Communications will be on university bookshelves by early 2014 and the digital version will launch early spring, 2014." -David Schokking, Editor in Chief, McMaster Journal of Communications, 2014 Below: 1.
